We arrived at the restaurant with 15 minutes to spare. I was shocked again at Enzo’s gallantry as he nudged the valet away from the door and gave me his hand to help me out of the Town Car.

We’d been driven by Enzo’s friend, Frank, who regaled us with funny stories of his wife and children. I was happy to have a distraction to take my mind off what had happened in the nursery earlier.

There were so many emotions at play with Boo’s well-being and happiness at stake. Considering that I’d hated Enzo for a few years now, the fact that he was suddenly all I could think about shocked the hell out of me. That wasn’t an easy feat. Even when I’d been tied up in the chair across the room from him, there was something about the man that made me wonder what life with him could be like. I’d wondered if there was any way for the two of us to get along.

When I’d offered to follow him anywhere as long as I could stay with Boo, I’d meant it. But along with that offer, I’d had visions of waking up in a sunlit room with him by my side as our daughter crawled into bed between us, chattering away.

I’d never in my life, even when I was a young wife back in Kentucky, seen a vision of happiness quite so clearly. It was astonishing that this man who I’d disliked almost from the first time I’d met him could bring out that emotion, that hope in me.

I felt Enzo’s hand on my lower back as we walked through the doors of the restaurant and then followed the hostess to our reserved table. Enzo pulled out my chair and then helped me push it closer to the table. Once I was comfortable, he pulled out the chair next to mine and sat down.

While the sommelier explained the wine selections for the evening, I studied Enzo’s profile. When the man was finished, Enzo turned and looked at me with one brow raised.

“What would you like, sweetheart?”

“A bottle of 2009 Leroy Domaine d’Auvenay Meursault Les Narvaux, please.”

“Three glasses, please,” Enzo added before the sommelier nodded and went on his way. “Is that your favorite wine?”

“It is, but I rarely drink it, considering the price. Since this dinner will go on Ahmad’s account and I know that he enjoys it also, I felt like I could order it this evening.”

“I’m almost afraid to ask how much it costs.”

“A little more than $6000.” Enzo’s eyes got wide, and he sputtered as he covered his mouth and coughed. “That’s why I’ll be happy to let Ahmad cover the check, and I’m sure you will too.”

“Yeah,” Enzo agreed, having found his composure again. “For that much money, the wine better be made of unicorn tears.”

“I should hope not. Once a unicorn sheds a tear, it dies within the hour.” Enzo’s brows knit together in confusion, and I smiled. “That’s just a fairy tale.”

“I saw the unicorns in Boo’s nursery.
